Interesting Anecdote
Timeline

Abigail was an amazing woman who contributed many things to the past and to the present.

Abigail contributeds to modern society are the fact that she insisted women and African-Americans were equal to and as good as white men. Thanks to her and others (MLK, Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony, etc.) women and African-Americans are no longer treated with as much disrespect as they used to be (although sometimes they are not treated completely equal).
Abigail Adams contributions to post-colonial society and politics were her influenece on many of her husbands (John Adams) decisions as President and as Vice-President. Abigail's other contributions were her insistance that women and African-Americans were equal to white men. She once wrote to her husband while he was writing the Declaration of Independence, "I long to hear that you have declared an independency. And, by the way, in the new code of laws which I suppose it will be necessary for you to make, I desire you would remember the ladies and be more generous and favorable to them than your ancestors. Do not put such unlimited power into the hands of the husbands. Remember, all men would be tyrants if they could. If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment a rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or representation."
